Shorthanded KCB target revenge against Prisons in Mozzart Kenya Cup semifinal

KCB Women's Volleyball Team will be out to keep their 2026 Mozzart Kenya Cup title hopes alive, when they take on perennial rivals Kenya Prisons in a hugely anticipated Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) semifinal at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Saturday, 25 July.

The clash, scheduled for 12:00 p.m., headlines the three-day domestic cup tournament running from Friday, 24 July to Sunday, 26 July, and is expected to rekindle one of Kenya's fiercest volleyball rivalries.
The encounter comes just weeks after the two sides produced a thrilling National League playoff series at the same venue, where Prisons, widely regarded as the-then underdogs, beat KCB 3-2 in a five-set contest to qualify for the finals of the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League play-offs.
Speaking ahead of the last-four tie, KCB head coach Japheth Munala said: “Kenya Prisons remain one of the toughest teams in the country, and every meeting between us demands discipline, resilience and character.
We have prepared well, and the players understand what is at stake. The Kenya Cup is an important competition for us, and we are determined to give our best,and fight for a place in the final."
Experienced middle blocker Edith Wisa and Mildred Cherop have both been ruled out of the tournament, handing Munala the task of reshuffling his squad ahead of one of the season's biggest fixtures.
"Matches against Kenya Prisons are always competitive because both teams know each other well," team captain Mercy Moim stated. "We have worked hard in training, corrected the mistakes from our recent matches, and everyone is motivated. We know it won't be easy, but we are ready to fight for every point, and give ourselves a chance of reaching the final."
KCB enters the contest as the defending champions, this after they thrashed Kenya Pipeline 3-0 at Kasarani on 13 July 2025 to lift the inaugural Kenya Cup title.
On the other side of the women's semifinal draw, DCI will take on Kenya Pipeline in the early kick-off scheduled for 1000 EAT at the same venue.
