The journey to the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two National Championships in Thika has entered a crucial stage following the confirmation of venues and dates for the regional championships.

This year's regional games will carry added significance as schools seek to dethrone defending champions across various disciplines while securing slots at the national championships, scheduled for 26 July to 2 August in Kiambu County.

The unpredictability of school sports has already been evident during the qualification process, with 2025 national boys' football champions St. Joseph's Boys Kitale failing to reach this year's regional championships after being eliminated by St. Anthony's Kitale in the Trans Nzoia County finals.

Regional action across all eight regions will get underway in the Rift Valley Region, where schools will converge at Narok High School from 6-11 July. The following day, competitions will begin simultaneously in the Western, Nyanza and Nairobi regions, with Bungoma High School, Homa Bay High School and Jamhuri High School hosting their respective championships from 7-11 July.

Attention will then shift to the Coast and Eastern regions, where Kwale High School and Makueni High School will host the championships from 8-11 July. The Central Region championships will take place at Mpesa Academy from 9-11 July as teams battle for places at the national finals.

The North Eastern Region will be the last to determine its representatives, with the championships scheduled for 20-22 July in Tabata, Mandera.

The regional championships will feature football for boys and girls, rugby sevens, volleyball, netball, basketball 3x3, and indoor games including badminton, table tennis and tennis. Winners and top-performing teams will advance to the national championships in Thika before Kenya's representatives proceed to the FEASSSA Games in Tanzania from 12-23 August.

With county champions now known in most parts of the country and regional tickets on the line, the race to Thika is set to intensify as schools chase national glory and a chance to represent Kenya on the East African stage.
