The season kicks off in Limuru on Saturday, 7 March 2026, at a new venue offering fresh terrain, rolling hills, tea plantations, and challenging gravel routes for riders and spectators alike.
After two successful seasons, the Limuru opener is set to draw over 700 cyclists from across the region competing for up to Ksh125,000 in the top team prize.
This year, the series introduces a Riders’ Choice leg, allowing participants to vote for the location of the final race and giving cyclists a stronger voice in shaping the season.
Following Limuru, the second leg, which is a UCI-qualifying race, takes place in Naivasha on Saturday, 13 June 2026, with the third leg in Vipingo on Friday, 28 August, 2026.
The Riders’ Choice leg will conclude the season on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
Beyond the main races, the series features monthly club rides and activities, providing tips and mentorship from top talent from leading teams.
The 2026 season will also see adjusted race distances for greater inclusivity. The Elite Race will cover 100km, reduced from 120km.
The Recreational Race will cover 50km, reduced from 60km, while the Amateur Race remains 20km and is ideal for first-time riders.
Each leg will include a 5km children’s fun race, reinforcing the series’ commitment to grassroots development and early talent exposure.
The 2025 season showcased standout performances, notably by Ugandan cyclists Jordan Schleck and Mary Aleper, who successfully defended their 120km titles in Vipingo Ridge.
Schleck, with five wins in eight races since 2024, remains a favourite heading into Limuru.
Reflecting on the series’ growth, Eric Muriuki, CEO of LOOP DFS, said:
“The LOOP Safari Gravel Series has grown into more than just a competition. We have seen elite performances, rising participation from recreational riders, and engagement from local communities.
Cycling is proving to be a powerful tool for sports, healthy living, and economic development. We are proud to support a platform that develops talent while showcasing Kenya’s landscapes globally.”
Preparations for 2026 are in full swing, with Limuru bringing a fresh dimension to the season opener. Troy Barrie, Coordinator of The Amani Project, added:
“Shifting the opening leg from Tatu City to Limuru refreshes the experience and introduces riders to new terrain. The rider-selected final leg shows how the series continues to listen to and grow with the cycling community.”
Organised by The Amani Project in partnership with LOOP DFS, the LOOP Safari Gravel Series continues to strengthen Kenya’s reputation as a global gravel cycling destination while fostering cycling development at all levels.
