Club founder will now lodge official complaint to KHU
A disallowed goal at stoppage time left a bitter taste in the mouth of hosts Kisumu Queens Hockey Club in their Kenya Hockey Union Women's Super League match played on Sunday at Simba Club, Kisumu.
"We were robbed," blurted Queens coach and founder Brian Aduda while addressing the media.
The game was locked at 1-1 when Queens scored in the dying minutes of the game.
However, despite the umpire Jimmy Carter awarding the goal initially, after further consultation, the goal was chalked off.
According to the official explanation, the buzzer had been sounded by the lead jury at the time the goal was being scored, yet, the umpire had not blown his whistle to signal the end of the game.
"We shall lodge a complaint with the Kenya Hockey Union. We have signed the papers, but under protest," Aduda, who is also the chairman of the Kisumu County Hockey Association (KCHA), said.
Twinkle had scored through Velma Akinyi in the 11th minute but the hosts rallied to equalize through Eunice Awuor at the half hour mark.
The ill-tempered game saw Queens' technical bench accuse their Twinkle's counterparts of hurling unprintables at them.
Twinkle's coach Fredrick Masibo vehemently refuted the claims.
"Our game is of better standard than theirs. We play better hockey than them, that's what insulted them."
Placed second on the log on 32 points, eight off runaway leaders Sliders, Twinkle are in contention for promotion to the Premier League next season with just four games to go.
"That's not our main goal, but if we get the promotion, it shall be God's reward," Masibo said.
