The youngster will be hoping to get another chance between the posts when Homeboyz welcome Sofapaka to Bukhungu Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Kakamega Homeboyz's rookie custodian, Ibrahim Wanzala, is elated after returning to action after sitting out for five months.

Wanzala's last competitive match was in June against Bidco United on the penultimate day of the previous season.

The youthful keeper found playing time hard to come his way following the arrival of Ugandan international James Ssetuba and first-choice Farouk Shikalo, who were preferred ahead of him.

On Sunday, the fast-rising keeper was entrusted between the sticks for the very first time in the season during Homeboyz's 2-0 victory over Muhoroni Youth in Muhoroni.

The former Harambee Stars U-17 goalkeeper did not disappoint, crowning his return to action with a clean sheet to his name and third for the team, adding to Shikalo's two clean sheets.

The ex-Mayenje Santos custodian could not hold back his joy following his return to first-team football and recording his personal and team clean sheets.

"I am so happy to be back between posts after several months out. I am more than happy to record my first clean sheet in my very first match of the season. I feel it's a huge plus to me and the whole goal-keeping department," Wanzala told Mozzart Sport.

Despite getting the nod ahead of Shikalo on Sunday, Wanzala admits there is stiff competition in the goal-keeping department but hopes to feature on Friday.

"We have a strong department, and definitely everyone is eyeing playing time. I haven't been a preferred choice in the previous matches, but I am optimistic to man the post once again on Friday against Sofapaka and hopefully secure another clean sheet for the team," he added.
