High ambitions for DCI ahead of KVF playoffs

The side is looking to qualify for the CAVB Club championship for the first time.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women’s league playoffs have been scheduled for 13 to 15 January 2023 at Makande Social Hall in Mombasa as the top four team battle after a shaky regular season clash.

Third placed Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have set lofty targets as head coach Daniel Bor says they are targeting the title as they look to qualify for the Africa Club championships for the first time too.

“There has been great improvement since the team played in the Nyerere Cup when we resumed action. In Mosoriot, the team also displayed better tactics than the last leg in Mombasa but there is still room for improvement.

A majority of the players are still in training at the police college in Kiganjo so we do not get as much time to train as we did before but we will be ready for the playoffs.

They are continuing with training throughout this festive season and we will have about ten days in January to prepare before heading to Mombasa," offered Bor.

The tactician acknowledges that it will be no easy task to try and dethrone champions Prisons Kenya neither will it be easy to wrestle for the title against the star-studded KCB and Kenya Pipeline sides.

"Despite the shaky regular season, everyone will be out to prove that they are good enough to lift the title, not forgetting the chase for continental club championship slots which makes the playoffs ever so competitive. We have set our target on the title and we fail, the runners-up position," Bor opined.

Kenya Pipeline headline the standings after the regular league with KCB in second place while DCI are third. Holders Prisons are fourth.

The women's playoff in Mombasa is tentatively set to run concurrently with the men's 2023 season second leg action slated for Nyayo Indoor Arena in Nairobi. The first leg was held in Mosoriot on 9 December.

A new season for the women's league is set to serve off on 4 and 5 February in Nairobi.
