
FEASSA: St. Joseph’s Kitale and Kakungulu crowned FEASSSA 2025 hockey champions as Kitende reign in netball

In boys’ volleyball, Kenya’s Cheptil overcame Burundi’s defending champions St. Luc 3-2 in a pulsating semifinal.
The 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games entered a decisive phase today, with champions crowned in hockey and netball, while thrilling battles unfolded in basketball, handball, and volleyball semifinals.
St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale reaffirmed their dominance in East African schools girls’ hockey after beating Uganda’s Kakungulu 6-0 in their final fixture to successfully defend their crown. The Kenyan champions completed the campaign unbeaten, sealing back-to-back titles in style.

In the boys’ category, Uganda’s Kakungulu celebrated glory after edging Kenya’s St. Anthony’s Kitale to the title. Kakungulu clinched top spot with a commanding 3-0 win over St. Charles Lwanga in their final match, finishing ahead of silver medalists St. Anthony’s and bronze winners St. Charles Lwanga.
Musingu’s Brian Anzeze and Enel Akinyi of Mwiki were named Most Valuable Players in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.

In girls’ basketball 5x5 semifinals, St. Mary’s Kitende (Uganda) edged Rwanda’s ESB Kamonyi 69-64 in a nail-biter, while Uganda’s St. Noa ousted Kenya’s Butere Girls 62-53 to set up an all-Ugandan final.

In the shorter 3x3 version, Uganda’s Buddo SS stormed into the final with a comfortable 16-8 win over Tigoi Girls (Kenya). Meanwhile, Kenya’s Ng’iya Girls booked their spot after a dramatic 12-11 victory against compatriots Buruburu Girls in an all-Kenyan semifinal.
In boys’ handball, Kenya and Rwanda booked final spots. Kenya’s Kimilili powered into the boys’ handball final after defeating Uganda’s Bombo Army 33-27 in a high-scoring encounter. Rwanda’s ADEGI also sealed a place in the final with a dominant 23-13 win over Kenya’s Highway.

In boys’ volleyball, Kenya’s Cheptil overcame Burundi’s defending champions St. Luc 3-2 in a pulsating semifinal. Uganda’s Namugongo also advanced after edging Bukedea 3-2 in another five-set thriller, ending St. Luc’s reign.
The girls’ volleyball semifinals were an all-Kenyan affair. Kesogon powered past Soweto 3-1 (25-19, 25-15, 19-25, 25-17), while Kwanthanze swept Bishop Sulumeti in straight sets (25-14, 25-23, 25-13), setting up a heavyweight final showdown.
In the netball final, St. Mary’s Kitende underlined their supremacy by defeating rivals Buddo SS 46-30 in an all-Ugandan clash. The victory saw Kitende reclaim the crown and continue their legacy as regional heavyweights in the sport.
