The military side missed a stoppage-time penalty as the two teams settled for a 2-all draw
Ulinzi Starlets and Kenya Police Bullets FC played out to a two-all draw in a thrilling FKF Women's Premier League game staged at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Ulinzi started the game on a high, going 2-0 inside the first 30 minutes of the duel. Linda Kihara got the opener inside the second minute with a diving header after connecting to a Joy Kinglady cross from the right flank. Rising Starlets forward Fasila Adhiambo then made it 2-0 at the half-hour mark.
Assists machine Lydia Akoth pulled one back for the law enforcers in the 38th minute, and deep into first half stoppage time, Rebecca Okwaro completed the comeback to ensure the games went for the interval with the scores level.
The second half was largely balanced, but the soldiers had the best chances of the game. Ulinzi had two penalty appeals waved by the center referee. The first was for a foul inside the penalty area, and the other for an alleged handball.
Police keeper Mishi Mbaru stood tall between the posts, denying the home team on a number of occasions, including a stoppage-time penalty save, and in the end, the points were shared.
In Kitale, Vihiga Queens got a walkover after their hosts and opponents for the day, Trans Nzoia Falcons, failed to show up for the game.
Falcons are currently facing serious financial challenges, and last weekend they failed to travel to Bungoma for their game against Bungoma Queens. They are now one walkover away from being expelled from the women’s league.
Queens played a friendly match against Kitale Youth Academy instead, winning 2-0 through goals from Janet Bundi and Maurine Achieng.
"There was no show from our opponents, Transnzoia Falcons Ladies Football Club, and so we played a friendly with Kitale Youth Academy, winning the match 2-0,” said a statement from the club.
