In a letter dated 6 February 2026 and addressed to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) General Secretary, the club’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, Evangelist Charles Mulli, formally notified the federation of his decision to disband the club.
In the letter, Mulli cited persistent financial constraints as the reason behind his decision to exit Kenyan football, though he had kind words for FKF over its efforts in developing the game.
“I write to formally notify the Football Kenya Federation of my decision to disband MCF FC, the NSL team, with immediate effect due to persistent financial constraints.
At the outset, I wish to congratulate the Football Kenya Federation leadership and officials for the commendable work being done to develop and manage football in our nation. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity granted to MCF FC to participate in the National Super League, which has been a valuable platform for growth, exposure and development,” reads part of the letter.
According to the letter, increasing financial commitments have made it difficult for the team to continue operating.

MCF is a non-profit organisation that seeks to see vulnerable children, youth and marginalised members of society lead dignified livelihoods.
“This decision has been reached after careful consideration of the increasing financial commitments. MCF FC has not only existed as a competitive football club but has also been an extension of Mully Children's Family's humanitarian mission, using football as a tool for youth empowerment, social transformation, rehabilitation, mentorship and talent development for vulnerable and disadvantaged youth.”
Besides football activities, Mully Children's Family cares for thousands of needy children from vulnerable backgrounds, providing food, shelter, education, healthcare, psychosocial support and other essential services.
Mulli stated that these humanitarian programmes form the organisation’s core mandate and require substantial and sustained financial resources.
“Unfortunately, despite our strong commitment to both sporting excellence and humanitarian service, the club has faced severe financial challenges that have made continued participation in the NSL unsustainable.”
The CEO further revealed that the financial struggles are what led to the club’s failure to honour their final first-leg match against Gucha Stars on 1 February at Gusii Stadium in Kisii.
The Children’s Nobel Prize nominee added that the club will pay two months’ salaries to players and has requested FKF to grant a short window to allow them secure moves elsewhere.
“Notwithstanding the disbandment, the club remains committed to the welfare of its players and staff. I hereby confirm that the club will pay one month's salary plus one (1) month's salary in lieu of notice to all affected players in line with our contractual and moral obligations.
In consideration of the welfare and future of our players, I respectfully request the Federation to grant a grace period or special dispensation to allow our registered players adequate time to engage, negotiate and sign with other FKF-affiliated clubs without penalty or restriction.”
MCF was founded in 2016 and entered the FKF South and Northern Zone Division Two before earning subsequent promotions to Division One by 2018.
In 2020, they were promoted to the NSL following the disbandment of Ushuru FC, a development that proved a blessing in disguise for the club.
The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee elevated the Division One playoff losers against Soy United after the Taxmen folded due to financial constraints.
Since then, MCF had been an active participant in the league for more than five seasons, with their best campaign coming in the 2021/2022 season when they finished fifth with 56 points.
