He beat AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani, Murang’a SEAL’s Osborne Monday, and Bandari’s Bernard Mwalala to the award.

The Ghanaian, who previously won the gong in October 2025, the inaugural award, returned to the spotlight following a remarkable run that saw his side remain firmly in control at the top of the standings.

It was double delight for Gor Mahia as Paul Ochuoga also scooped the league's January Player of the Month after an outstanding start to the year.

The defender capped the month with a crucial stoppage-time winner against Bidco United and also scored in the 3-2 win over Muran'ga SEAL that ensured Gor Mahia remained firmly in the title race.

Akonnor’s team delivered an impressive sequence of results in January, going unbeaten in six matches with five victories and one draw.

Their run included dominant wins over Kariobangi Sharks, Mara Sugar FC and Sofapaka, a spirited comeback against Murang’a SEAL after trailing by two goals, and narrow victories over Bidco United and Shabana FC.

By the end of the month, Gor Mahia had scored 15 goals, conceded only four, and registered three clean sheets.

This consistency kept K’Ogalo clear at the summit with 40 points, four ahead of their closest challengers, AFC Leopards, who have a game in hand.

For his achievement, Akonnor received the Coach of the Month trophy along with a cash reward of Ksh75,000.

He edged out strong competition from three other outstanding contenders: AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani, Murang’a SEAL’s Osborne Monday, and Bandari’s Bernard Mwalala.

Ambani finished second in the voting after guiding AFC Leopards through an impressive January campaign. Despite suffering a narrow defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz early in the month, Ingwe responded with four straight wins over Nairobi United, Tusker FC, APS Bomet and Sofapaka.

They scored nine goals, kept three clean sheets and posted an 80 per cent win rate. Ambani had also been named Coach of the Month in December.

Osborne Monday placed third following a remarkable turnaround at Murang’a SEAL. Taking over a side that was battling relegation, he led them to three wins from four matches, including victories over Mathare United and Bidco United.

His team’s only setback came against Gor Mahia. The strong run lifted SEAL to fourth place with 30 points.

Bandari coach Bernard Mwalala was also nominated after a solid start to his tenure. Appointed in early January, he collected 10 points from four matches, recording three wins and one draw.

The Dockers conceded just twice, kept two clean sheets, and climbed to ninth place on the table with 27 points.
