Mozzart Sport takes a look at six talking points from the seven fixtures, that were played on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Defence will win Gor Mahia titles
Legendary tactician Sir Alex Ferguson once made the famous quote ‘Attack wins you games, defense wins you titles.”
Those words can be best used to describe the signs that Gor Mahia are showing this season.
K’Ogalo had a false start to the season, losing 1-0 to Bidco United courtesy of an 88th minute penalty by Newton Ochieng.
The 21-time league champions have since played four other league matches, including their mid-week win over Mathare United, and have not conceded even a single goal.
Even when under pressure, like some spells in the second half against Mathare, the Gor backline which is primarily made of; Sylvester Owino and Michael Kibwage at the heart of it.
Full backs Paul Ochuoga and Bryton Onyona, as well as goalkeeper Bryne Omondi have stood tall to prevent goals.
AFC Leopards begin to roar
When AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani was campaigning, he promised the club’s faithful that the club will roar again, under his reign.
The club experienced a slow start, in the campaign, but signs of better things to come are there for all to see.
After failing to win in the first three first league rounds, a run that saw the club’s supporters pressure coach Fred Ambani - Boniface’s elder brother-the tactician has managed to calm the storm.
Leopards produced a remarkable comeback, away to Shabana, to secure a 2-1 win that marked their second consecutive win.
Victory in Gusii pushed them to fifth,on the log, much to the delight of the supporters
Fred will be keen to build on the two consecutive wins and hopefully end the league title drought at the end of the season.
Trouble at Shabana
The Leopard roar had a casualty in the name of Shabana FC.
The Glamour Boys have lost three consecutive home matches and gone four league games without a win.
Fans filled the air with chants of ‘Okidi must go’ towards the end of the match, as they continued to pile pressure on the tactician to either turn around results or leave.
The former Nakuru AllStars coach must find a way of winning again or he might be shown the exit door.
Kakamega Homeboyz shoots to top
2023 Mozzart Bet Cup champions, Kakamega Homeboyz, shot to the top of the FKF Premier League with a 2-1 win over limping APS Bomet.
The Mozzart Bet-sponsored outfit have come close to winning the league, including losing the nullified 2021/22 season on goal difference, and finishing third last season.
As early as the season is, a place at the summit of the league might just be the motivation that the Patrick Odhiambo-coached side needs to propel them to the title.
Osborne Monday living on borrowed time
It is now clear that Murang'a Seal head coach Osborne Monday is a man living on borrowed time at the club.
This is despite the Murang'a-based side coming from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw away to Posta Rangers.
The tactician is rumoured to be on his way out of the club, should he fail to secure a win in the club’s next match against KCB FC.
APS Bomet early relegation candidates
FKF Premier League newbies, APS Bomet, might have started drawing their way back to the National Super League (NSL) if their results are anything to go by.
The club lost their first three league matches before securing a crucial win over Kariobangi Sharks, but tasted defeat once again in their midweek clash with Kakamega Homeboyz.
Rooted at the bottom of the league table, the Bomet-based are early candidates to the drop.
