Obiero, who joined Tusker in September from FC Talanta, was handed a starting berth following an injury to first-choice custodian Brian Opondo, and he did not disappoint.

The former Sofapaka and Kariobangi Sharks goalkeeper showcased composure and agility, producing a string of crucial saves to maintain a clean sheet and ensure all three points for his side.

“I am very pleased with his performance. To keep a clean sheet on your debut while helping the team secure a win is exceptional.

He made some super saves that ensured we didn’t concede. It is now up to him to maintain consistency. This is a challenge to all players: when you are given a chance, you must make the most of it.”

The CAF A-licensed coach attributed the win not only to individual brilliance but also to strategic preparation, revealing that they had studied their opponents and effectively plotted to beat them by being tactically disciplined and dominant in positional play.

“We studied our opponents carefully. Tactical discipline and dominant positional play were key to exploiting areas where we could gain an advantage. The boys executed the plan perfectly, and it yielded positive results,” he added.

The victory saw Tusker halt a run of back-to-back defeats to title rivals Kenya Police and Gor Mahia, providing a morale booster as they aim to climb up the league standings.

The win marked Tusker’s fourth of the season, though it did little to change their spot in the league standings, keeping them sixth on the table but narrowing the gap against Gor Mahia to just four points.

Tusker will be back in action on Friday, 5 December, when they host Ulinzi Stars in Murang’a, looking to build on the momentum from the win in Awendo.
