The club delivered the update on Thursday, 4 December, evening through an official communication on their social media platforms, just two days before the clash.
According to the 21-time FKF Premier League champions, winger Wangai is in the final stages of recovery from an ankle injury picked up during K’Ogalo’s crucial 1–0 victory over Tusker FC on Saturday, 22 November.
The budding attacker, who has increasingly become a trusted offensive option, has shown significant improvement but remains short of full match fitness.
For midfield powerhouse Juma, the 2021 Midfielder of the Season and Golden Boot runner-up, has also been ruled out.
The former Nzoia Sugar FC midfielder sustained a groin injury during one of Gor Mahia’s friendly matches last week, just days after a shocking 4–1 loss to league debutants APS Bomet on Tuesday, 25 November.
The central midfielder who once skippered Sofapaka is currently undergoing rehabilitation and has been ruled out of Sunday’s high-octane encounter.
The club further clarified that former Bongonaya FC winger Wangai is close to full recovery, while Juma continues with structured therapy.
Meanwhile, the rest of the squad, including the quintet of Austin Odhiambo, Felix Oluoch, Fidel Origa, Joshua Onyango, and Enock Morrison, all of whom were recently involved in road accidents, have been declared fully fit and available for selection.
“Bryson is in the final phase of recovery from an ankle injury sustained against Tusker and nears full return. Lawrence Juma is under rehabilitation after sustaining a groin injury.
Both will not be available for selection on Sunday. The rest of the players are in perfect shape for the Mashemeji derby,” the club noted.
Gor Mahia will be aiming to stamp their authority once again and extend their dominance in the derby to a record-extending 34 victories.
Last season’s two-legged affair produced cagey draws, but with pride, prestige, and momentum on the line, Sunday’s clash promises renewed intensity and storylines worthy of Kenya’s biggest football spectacle.
