The Brewers' 2-0 loss to FC Talanta on Wednesday, 14 May, had seemingly derailed their pursuit of a 13th league title.

However, results elsewhere have breathed new life into their campaign, offering a timely reprieve at a pivotal moment in the season.

Record champions Gor Mahia were stunned 2-1 by relegation-battling Nairobi City Stars in a dramatic match staged on Thursday, 15 May, at Dandora Stadium.

A day earlier, Kenya Police's title ambitions suffered a similar blow as they fell 2-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz at Mumias Complex — a result that left the Law Enforcers lamenting a missed opportunity to tighten their grip on the title race.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Kibwage admitted that Tusker had nearly resigned themselves to fate after their own defeat, but welcomed the missteps by their rivals as a timely lifeline.

"It is a big relief in our aspirations to win the league,” said the former KCB FC skipper. “We had given up after the defeat to FC Talanta, but we can afford to smile now that our close rivals slipped in the title race.”

While encouraged, Kibwage was quick to warn against complacency, stressing the need for focus and flawless execution in the remaining fixtures.

"We now aim to win all our remaining matches because mathematically we still stand a chance. Any further slip will complicate our chances for the league crown,” he added.

Tusker’s remaining fixtures will be crucial in determining their fate as nine points stand between them and their title destiny, with the Charles Okere-led side also depending on results elsewhere.

The Brewers are set to host 2009 champions Sofapaka, relegation battling Murang’a Seal, and will conclude their campaign with a crucial clash away to Kakamega Homeboyz at Mumias Complex — a ground that has already proven decisive in this year’s title contest.
