In what has largely been the case this season, Kenyan giants Gor Mahia collected meagre revenue from ticket sales in their match against Nairobi City Stars played on Thursday, 16 May, at the Dandora Stadium.

In a statement on the Club's Facebook page, club treasurer Gerphas Okuku shared the announcement.
“Revenue collected from (Gor Mahia v City Stars) game.
Tickets sold - 1158
Total revenue - Ksh242,100
We appeal to fans to buy tickets to support the club,” reads the statement.

The club has had significant reduction in match attendance over the past three seasons or so with fans mainly coming out in their numbers in high profile matches like the Mashemeji Derby or on the last game of the season if they are lifting the league title.
The poor attendance by fans is largely attributed to the club's decision to take its home matches to Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, which is outside Nairobi, where the majority of fans hail from, or any of the four Luo Nyanza counties.
Apart from the poor attendance which is also occasioned by the fact that midweek matches generally attract less crowds as most fans are held at work, Gor Mahia has also had a challenge where a good number of fans do not pay for match tickets.
To this, the club's executive committee has been urging fans to buy match tickets and has put measures to increase revenue by assigning stewards and ticket agents from respective club branches on a rotational basis.

The 21-time league champions not only collected meagre revenue in the Thursday afternoon clash but also lost three points after losing 2-1 to Simba Wa Nairobi who at the time, were bottom on the log.
Hansel Ochieng and Vincent Owino's goals on either side of Gor Mahia's Benson Omalla strike, all in the first half, were enough to give the Salim Babu-coached side a big boost in their survival venture.
