Sichenje, who joined Charlton on transfer deadline day in January, is still waiting to make his debut in England, having been named among the substitutes in each of the club’s last three fixtures.

Playing at The Valley on Tuesday evening in the EFL Championship, Charlton made a bright start. Harry Clarke nearly gave the hosts the lead inside the opening minute, but his effort was well saved by Nicolas Schmid.

Clarke later set up Sonny Carey, who did well to create space in the box, only to see his shot drift wide.

Portsmouth broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Terry Devlin struck from range, beating Thomas Kaminski to hand the visitors the advantage.

Matters worsened for Charlton in the 35th minute after Amari’i Bell was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area. Colby Bishop calmly converted from the spot to double Portsmouth’s lead.

Charlton boss Nathan Jones responded with a triple substitution at the break, introducing Conor Coventry, Tyreece Campbell and Jayden Fevrier in a bid to spark a turnaround.

However, Devlin struck again 11 minutes into the second half with a superb long-range effort that cannoned in off the post to make it 3-0.

Fevrier offered a glimmer of hope for the Addicks in the 64th minute, sweeping home his first goal in Charlton colours after earlier going close with a curling effort.

Tyreece Campbell had a late chance in stoppage time, but his shot flew over the bar as Charlton pushed for a comeback.

Despite their efforts, the Addicks were unable to recover, leaving Sichenje still awaiting his long-anticipated debut as Portsmouth walked away with all three points.

Next for the Addicks is an away clash against Southampton on Saturday, where Sichenje will hope to finally make his Championship bow.
