Shabana FC patron Simba Arati has promised a Ksh1 million reward to his team if they secure a historic victory over Gor Mahia in Saturday’s FKF Premier League clash at Nyayo National Stadium.

Tore Bobe will face the record league champions on Saturday, 21 March, in a high-stakes encounter expected to produce fireworks, with the Kisii-based side still chasing their first-ever top-flight win against K’Ogalo since returning to the league.

Speaking during the inception and mapping of Gusii Stadium alongside engineers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Arati revealed he has set aside the cash incentive to motivate the players.

Shabana head into the fixture on the back of a turbulent spell that has seen them part ways with head coach Peter Okidi earlier this week.

Okidi’s exit came just a day after a 2-1 defeat to Kariobangi Sharks, following a heavy 5-1 loss to AFC Leopards, results that piled pressure on the technical bench.

Statistics, however, do not favour Tore Bobe. Since their promotion to the top tier in 2023, Shabana are yet to register a win against Gor Mahia.

K’Ogalo won both meetings in Shabana’s first season back in the Premier League with identical 1-0 scorelines, and repeated the same result in the second leg of the 2024/2025 campaign.

The other encounters, including the first leg of the current season, have ended in draws.

The fixture also carries significant weight in Shabana’s title ambitions, with defeat likely to deal a major blow to their slim hopes.

Assistant coach Andrea Ongwae, a former Gor Mahia defender, is expected to lead the team from the touchline as the club continues its search for a new head coach.

At the same time, Governor Arati confirmed that renovation works at Gusii Stadium will commence soon following the completion of initial planning stages.

The development comes after President William Ruto recently announced that Ksh770 million has been set aside for the stadium upgrade.

The current facility has been deemed too small to accommodate the planned expansion, which prompted authorities to incorporate the nearby ASK showground into the project.

During the renovation period, matches currently hosted at Gusii will be relocated to alternative venues as sections of the facility will be demolished to pave the way for the upgrade.
