Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, the Head of State announced a Ksh2.5 million donation to be shared among five clubs in the region.

The beneficiaries include National Super League (NSL) sides Vihiga United and Luanda Villa, FKF Women's Premier League outfit Vihiga Queens, FKF Women NSL side Bunyore Starlets, and FKF Division One team Vihiga Sportiff.

The announcement came after Vihiga United chairman Alfred Indimuli Kahi appealed for support.

We host several teams here, including Vihiga United, Vihiga Queens, Luanda Villa and Bunyore Starlets, and one of the biggest challenges we face is transport.

We kindly request support in acquiring buses to ease movement for our teams,” Kahi said.

In response, President Ruto pledged to step in and address the concern.

“We will support these teams by providing a bus to ease their transport challenges. Sports is a key pillar in empowering our youth, and we must invest in it,” Ruto stated.

Mozzart Sport understands that there are ongoing discussions for the provision of two 33-seater minibuses, which would be shared among the clubs to ease logistical constraints.

The President also revealed that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will oversee the construction of the stadium to ensure timely completion.

The facility, which will be a 10,000-seater stadium, is among the flagship projects in the county this year and is expected to significantly boost sports development in the region.

“As we build stadiums in Nairobi, we must also invest in regions like Vihiga. Today we are launching the construction of a modern stadium here in Kidundu,” Ruto said.

This will be an international-standard facility costing Ksh900 million. I have directed that the military supervise the works so that the project is completed within nine months. I will personally return to commission it.”

At the same event, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi asked for additional funding to improve infrastructure around the stadium.

I have requested the President to consider allocating an additional Ksh100 million to improve access roads leading to the stadium, including the stretch from Majengo through Kidundu to Mbale,” Mudavadi said.

The former AFC Leopards patron noted that once complete, the stadium will be capable of hosting matches that meet international standards.

On behalf of the people of Vihiga County, I thank the President for turning this long-standing dream into reality.

Those who envisioned a modern stadium here may no longer be with us, but their aspirations are finally being realised,” he added.
