Belgian big man has never conceded two goals at Anfield and is still unbeaten there

Wednesday evening will be a huge one for giants of European football, Liverpool and Real Madrid respectively. Between the posts of the Spanish club's goal will stand a player who is more than confident against the Reds.

It's nothing new that Thibaut Courtois is a world-class goalkeeper. The Belgian has been key for Real Madrid this season and is one of the reasons for them being within touching distance of Atletico Madrid atop the LaLiga table.

As per Marca, his importance will likely be highlighted again at Anfield on Wednesday. Real Madrid travel to Liverpool with a 3-1 first-leg lead to hold on to, and Courtois' record against the Reds bodes well. In nine games against them, he has won four, drawn four and lost just one.

Jurgen Klopp's side are going to need at least two goals to progress, but Courtois has never conceded two goals in any of his four visits to Anfield, nor has he ever lost there. His one win there was 2-1, and he's drawn the other three times.

In October 2015, Courtois missed out as Chelsea hosted Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, with Philippe Coutinho scoring twice as the Reds won 3-1. He was left out again for the return fixture at Anfield, as Eden Hazard netted in a 1-1 draw.

The only time Courtois has met Liverpool in a two-legged knockout tie, it ended well for him. Back in 2014/15, Jose Mourinho's side drew 1-1 at Anfield in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

The second leg in London ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, and Branislav Ivanovic bagged a winner in extra time. Courtois was at his best to deny Alberto Moreno and Coutinho.

More than six years have passed since then, but Courtois returns to Anfield knowing that, if he can do what he has always done against them, Real Madrid will knock Liverpool out of Europe to reach the Champions League semi-finals, where they could well meet his former club, Chelsea.

Courtois' trophy case is pretty stacked, filling it with league titles and domestic cups with Genk, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Chelsea. He even has an European trophy - Europa League title with Atletico. As far as Champions League goes, he has played one final and he lost it while playing for Atletico against his current club.
