Pep's Christmas miracle: "I lost all my kilos"

Guardiola jokes about losing weight after Christmas as City survive a brutal test at the City Ground

Pep Guardiola left the City Ground on Saturday afternoon exhausted, lighter - literally - and euphoric.

"I was overweight after Christmas and now I've lost all my kilos," Guardiola joked after Manchester City’s 2-1 hard-fought away win at Nottingham Forest. "Really, really, really important three points."

The City boss hailed Sean Dyche's side as one of the toughest opponents you can face away from home, praising the Tricky Trees for their resilience and physical power.

"They have a huge personality. It's so difficult to break them. Igor Jesus won all the duels. Gibbs-White? What a player. Anderson too. If you don't have the right mentality here, it's impossible to win."

Guardiola was also caught in wild celebrations with Pep Lijnders after the opener - a moment he explained with a smile.

"Pep is so good. People from Liverpool know it. Maybe I'm his assistant," he laughed. "We talk all the time during the game about how to find extra players in shooting positions."

And when Rayan Cherki sealed the win, Guardiola's emotions spilled over again.

"When you celebrate like that, the players understand how tough it is. This is a very, very difficult place to come."

City survived. Guardiola suffered. And three points felt like gold.
