Former Sofapaka coach David Ouma officially begins his reign at Tanzanian side Coastal Union on Thursday against Tanzania Prisons in a top-tier match in Mbeya.
Ouma said he received his work permit last week enabling him to officially begin working on the Tanzanian side.
“I have been cleared to sit on the bench beginning on Thursday against Tanzania Prisons after receiving my work permit. Against Yanga I watched the match from the terraces and this will be my chance to handle the team officially,” he said.
With just six matches before the end of the first leg, the Kenyan coach said he is focusing on stabilizing the team and ensuring that they finish in a respectable position before the second leg.
“This is a team that was in the Cup final last season and so basically my work between now and the end of the first leg is to assess the squad and give every player an opportunity and assess all areas of weaknesses before we can see what to do.”
“So far I am delighted that everyone is responding well to my instructions and the Fifa window has given me an opportunity to strengthen further. Against Yanga they played well until the 39th minute and also we seemed to luck the fire power to finish off the match but this we have rectified,” added the coach.
Ouma also expressed his delight with the kind of reception he has received at the club both from the management and the playing unit.
“It has been amazing and the kind of support I have is motivating. I am convinced I made the right decision to come here.”
Further, Ouma is also delighted to reunite with former Posta Rangers, Bandari, and Sofapaka defender Felly Mulumba who is at Coastal Union.
“I started with him at Rangers and we also worked together at Sofapaka. It is great to meet him again and we hope to achieve a lot here.”
