Munyendo raptured the intermediate row of tarsal bones during the sugar men clash with Murang’a Seal at Sudi Stadium
Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Nzoia Sugar have been handed a boost ahead of the club's crucial fixture against Kenya Police FC this weekend following the return of goalkeeper Fredrick Munyendo from a month-long injury layoff.
Munyendo, who joined the Millers on the deadline day of the off-season transfer window, raptured the intermediate row of tarsal bones during the sugar men clash with Murang’a Seal at Sudi Stadium a match the host lost one goal to nil.
The towering custodian missed the Sudi-based club six matches sitting out of Posta Rangers, Kakamega Homeboyz, AFC Leopards, FC Talanta, Kariobangi Sharks and Shabana FC encounters.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport Nzoia’s goalkeeper trainer Erick Wasike confirmed that the netminder had resumed training noting that it is a huge boost for the team which has struggled for options in goal following his absence and injury to third-choice goalkeeper Daniel Omuse.
“He has trained very well this week and he will be available for the game against Kenya Police on Sunday,” offered Wasike.
“It is good news to the whole squad. When you have such fighters in the team you approach any match confidently knowing that you have a shield at the back. We have struggled this term with injuries in that position but his comeback is a morale booster to the other two to put in more effort in training,” he added.
On his side, Munyendo highlighted his desire to fight and cement his place as the Millers first choice goalkeeper, however, admits it is not going to be a walk in the park as he acknowledges the quality of the custodians ahead of him at the club.
“My aim is to reclaim my position as the first-choice goalkeeper and fight for the badge,” said Munyendo.
“I have not had a full game since I made this move but is not too late to dominate the clean sheets charts once I get the chance. My plan is to get out there help the team win matches and keep as many clean sheets as possible before the conclusion of the season;” he concluded.
Munyendo comeback is good news to Nzoia faithfuls who have witnessed the club ship in twelve goals in the opening eleven rounds and leave the Millers fifteenth on the log with nine points.
