National Super League (NSL) side SS Assad are expected to announce former Bandari assistant coach Nassoro Mwakoba as their new head coach, Mozzart Sport has learned.
This follows the dismissal of Ali Mwachaunga following a horrendous start to the 2023-/24 NSL season that has seen the club fail to win in five matches demoting the pre-season promotion favorites to twelfth on the log
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Mwachaunga who led the club to the second tier three seasons ago, confirmed to have parted ways with the Ukunda-based club, however, noted that he had not received official communication from the team.
“It is true I have left Assad but I have not received any news from the management confirming my sacking when you hear and confirm that there's someone taking your duties then that's it, you are no longer needed. Currently, I am in Nyeri doing other duties and I wish the team and the new coach all the best,” asserted Mwachaunga.
We have since established that the second-tier club has opted for the services of Mwakoba who previously served as an understudy of Bernard Mwalala at Bandari FC before being shown the door in 2021 and he will be coming in with his own staff.
Mwakoba, whose vast knowledge of Kenyan football played a role in his appointment, was at the stands on Sunday as Assad succumbed to a third consecutive defeat, falling 1-0 to Darajani Gogo in their own backyard.
A source from the club has told Mozzart Sport that the tactician will report for duty on Tuesday morning. His first league assignment as Assad coach will be a home game against Vihiga Bullets on Saturday 25th November.
“Nassoro is the new Assad head coach. Everything between him and the club management has been agreed upon and he will report for duty tomorrow. He is an experienced coach and the team has full confidence in him to help the team earn promotion to the FKF Premier League,” the source disclosed.
