NSL: Mara Sugar lead Mathare United chase in pick of weekend fixtures

Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 02.12.23. | 09:20

Two of the top three sides will be involved in the seven match card on Saturday

National Super League leaders Mathare United on Friday 1 December kicked off Round Twelve with a 3-2 victory over Vihiga Bullets at the Ruaraka Grounds, extending their lead up to six points.

Goals from Timothy Otieno, Steve Kimari and Christian Lubulu had the Slum Boys leading 3-0 before Lawrence Ouma and Erastus Oduor scored twice to make it a nervy finish for Leonard Odipo’s side.

On Saturday, however, two of the leading chasers will seek to bridge the gap to within three points, with seven matches on the card altogether.

Rainbow vs Mara Sugar

Interim manager for Mara Sugar Godfery Naibei will lead his team out at the Ildamat Stadium in Kajiado looking to bag his second win after demolishing Gusii 3-0 last weekend.

The hosts, in 15th place, are winless in their last four games and could jump to 13th with a win.

Mara, on seven wins, will however miss the services of captain Mohammed Baraza who is sidelined with a knee injury until January, defender Erick Ngiela, and midfielder David Owino.

The match will kick off at 1500 EAT.

Naivas FC vs Mulembe United

At an early kickoff (1300 EAT) match at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, third placed Naivas - on the back of three consecutive wins - will welcome 12th placed Mulembe United off a 2-0 win over Silibwet last weekend.

A win for the hosts could take them closer to Mathare United - three points - with Mulembe potentially jumping out to the top half with a similar result.

Gusii FC vs MCF FC

The early kickoff game at Cardinal Otunga High School will see Vincent Nyaberi manage in his second game for the visitors who are without a win in their last three.

Gusii on the other hand, have reportedly had their head coach Phelix Ogutu tender his resignation after having not had adequate time to train with his squad.

Only goal difference separates them from the relegation places, and with MCF just a point behind them at the bottom, all points will be valuable in this fixture.

Silibwet vs Migori Youth

Migori Youth, who on Friday lost their appeal to the SDT on sanctions placed upon them by the FKF Leagues and Competition Committee, will be hoping to extend their rich run of form to four wins on the bounce when they travel to face 17th placed Silibwet at Bomet Stadium from 1500 EAT.

A win for Migori could see them go above Kisumu All Stars, who play Kajiado FC at Kisumu, into fourth, with Silibwet keen to avoid their fourth straight defeat.

Match kicks off at 1500 EAT.
