About 19 months after unsuccessfully attempting to secure a vice president seat, former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has opened up on whether he fancies a return to football leadership, either locally or beyond borders.

Mwendwa was first elected as FKF President in February 2016 and sat at the helm of Kenyan football until December 2024, when his tenure came to an end, after an unsuccessful stab at the vice presidency.

Since his exit, the technocrat has adopted a low profile away from Kenyan football, save for occasional stadium appearances to watch his club, Kariobangi Sharks.

Mozzart Sport caught up with the seasoned administrator at his Hurlingham office, where, for the first time, he opened up on whether he considers a comeback to FKF leadership.

“I have no interest. I have so much to do currently. I have done my part, about 10 years leading the game in the country. At 35 years, I became President, and so I do not think there is much left to do in football,” said Mwendwa.

The 46-year-old went ahead to note that he believes it is time for the younger generation of administrators to take charge of the game and catapult it to the next level.

“Other people now have a chance to show what they have to offer, and there are many young people in that arena. I also want to see someone become President at 35 years and exit by around 45 years to do other things,” he added.

Mwendwa, who has since ventured into poultry farming, asserted that he is currently focused on his personal businesses, with his involvement in football now limited to Kariobangi Sharks.

“I have my club, which I am happy to have them play and go to the stadium to watch football when I am not building software or running my chicken farm. Above that, I am not interested in doing more in football,” he remarked.
