Luis Enrique’s side suffered a heavy blow with a 3–1 home defeat to Monaco

Monaco delivered a brutal revenge on PSG just ten days after Luis Enrique’s side had knocked them out of the Champions League. Three goals in the home net were more than enough for a convincing 3–1 victory.

Monaco threatened early in the 5th minute when Denis Zakaria met a cross inside the penalty area and directed a header toward goal, but the ball sailed just over the crossbar. PSG responded immediately, and only a minute later Achraf Hakimi found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Philipp Kohn. The Moroccan opted for a shot toward the left corner, but Kohn reacted brilliantly and made an excellent save.

Hakimi had another big opportunity in the 10th minute after being left unmarked at the edge of the box following a cross, but his effort drifted just past the left post. Monaco then showed their attacking quality as well. In the 17th minute, Maghnes Akliouche produced a superb individual run, beating several defenders before firing just over the crossbar from inside the area.

PSG continued to create chances. In the 19th minute, Kvaratskhelia delivered a perfect pass into the box for Nuno Mendes, whose shot narrowly missed the right post. Just a few minutes later, in the 22nd minute, Dro Fernandez had a golden opportunity after meeting a cross in the area, but his attempt went wide of the goal.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 27th minute, and it came for Monaco. The visitors’ high pressing paid off when Zaire-Emery carried the ball too deep into his own penalty area and saw his pass blocked in the middle. Balogun cleverly stepped aside, allowing Akliouche to strike first time with the inside of his left foot from close range and fire the ball into the right side of the net.

PSG tried to respond before the break and nearly equalized in the final seconds of the half. Nuno Mendes whipped in a dangerous low cross across the face of goal, but Fernandez arrived a fraction too late and could not make contact.

After 45 minutes, PSG are struggling to break down a confident and well-organized Monaco side. The visitors have executed their pressing strategy effectively and capitalized on a costly defensive mistake, with Akliouche’s goal giving them the advantage at halftime.

The second half between PSG and Monaco was far more eventful, with goals, quick momentum shifts, and several dangerous chances on both sides.

PSG began the half looking for a quick response. In the 50th minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia produced a brilliant run through the Monaco defense, but his close-range effort narrowly missed the left post.

Five minutes later, however, Monaco doubled their lead. Thilo Kehrer sent a long ball toward the right side of the Paris penalty area, where Coulibaly controlled it and flicked it centrally. Vitinha’s attempted intervention unintentionally played the ball to Aleksandr Golovin on the left, and the Russian calmly finished with a low left-footed shot across goal to make it 2–0.

Golovin nearly struck again in the 57th minute with a fantastic effort from about 20 meters out, curling the ball toward the far top corner. PSG goalkeeper Safonov reacted brilliantly, stretching to tip the shot behind for a corner.

PSG kept pushing forward in search of a way back into the match. In the 65th minute, Nuno Mendes fired a low shot from inside the penalty area after a clever pass from Mayulu, but the ball went wide. Ousmane Dembele also tried his luck five minutes later with a left-footed attempt from the edge of the box, aiming for the top corner, but his shot drifted wide.

The hosts finally pulled one back in the 71st minute. Hakimi drove through the middle and, after a fortunate bounce in a duel with Kehrer, laid the ball off to Bradley Barcola on the left side of the box. Barcola struck immediately with the inside of his right foot, and a slight deflection helped the ball find the net to reduce the deficit to 2–1.

Monaco responded almost immediately with more attacking intent. In the 72nd minute, Lamine Camara produced an impressive solo run and fired a shot toward the top-right corner, but Safonov made another good save.

Just a minute later, the visitors restored their two-goal advantage. Lee lost possession under pressure from Maghnes Akliouche about 25 meters from goal, allowing Balogun to seize the opportunity. The striker unleashed a powerful right-footed shot that deflected off Nuno Mendes and looped over Safonov into the net for 3–1.
