Linked with Real Madrid, the Portuguese midfielder insists leaving Paris would be "foolish" as Luis Enrique's side prepares to host Monaco one more time

Paris Saint-Germain welcome AS Monaco to the Parc des Princes on Friday in a Ligue 1 fixture that arrives just days after the two sides crossed paths in the Champions League (as the reigning champions progressed to the next round).

Yet while the focus may naturally fall on the latest chapter of that rivalry, the spotlight in Paris currently belongs to one man: Vitinha.

The Portuguese midfielder has become one of the defining figures of Luis Enrique's PSG, and this week he moved to silence speculation surrounding his future. In recent months, the 26-year-old has repeatedly been linked with Real Madrid, while interest has also emerged from Saudi Arabia. But Vitinha insists he sees no reason to leave the French capital.

"It would be foolish to leave. I don't think it's the best thing for me right now," the Portugal international told Canal 11. "I feel great here in Paris. I feel loved by the fans, I feel I've won their affection, and we have a fantastic team."

Those words will come as a major relief to PSG supporters. Vitinha has grown into a central pillar of Enrique's side, playing a decisive role in the club's historic 2024-25 campaign that ended with their first-ever Champions League triumph. His influence in midfield, combining control, intelligence and relentless work rate, has naturally attracted admirers across Europe.

But for now, the former Porto man is not tempted.

"I already earn a very good living here in Europe, at a big club," he added. "Doubling or tripling my salary wouldn't make me any happier."

With a contract running until 2029 and his stock higher than ever - he finished third in the 2025 Ballon d'Or standings - Vitinha appears fully committed to PSG's project.

That commitment will be crucial against a Monaco side eager to bounce back when they travel to Paris. The match also serves as preparation for another demanding week ahead for Luis Enrique's team, with a high-profile Champions League clash against Chelsea looming.

At a time when Europe's giants are circling, PSG know exactly what they have in their midfield conductor. And on Friday night against Monaco, the man who insists Paris is still his home will once again be expected to prove why.
