Lukaku not going to play for Napoli again

His decision to stay in Belgium was the 'last straw'
It was March 6th 2026 when Romelo Lukaku played his last game for Napoli in all competition. He didn’t play much before that ether. In fact, the Napoli striker had only seven appearances for the Italian club in all competitions since the start of the season, registering only one goal, one yellow card and accumulating only 64 minutes! And it seems that that was all we will see from Lukaku again in a blue shirt. As per La Repubblica, the Belgian striker will not play a single minute for Napoli and will be sold in the June transfer window.
Lukaku’s career in Napoli couldn’t have been more different in 2024/25 and 2025/26. When he arrived last season, he was the striker coach Antonio Conte fell in love with while at Inter, scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 Serie A appearances which hugely contributed in Napoli’s title. The stark contrast followed this season, with a bad injury and bad behavior which resulted in only seven appearances, one goal and decision to sell him. Brought in for 30 million euros from Chelsea, he is currently worth around 10 million euros and has a history of injuries.

His muscle problems have sidelined him for 176 days and caused him to miss 31 matches, but the ‘final straw’ was his behavior during the international break. He was called up for Belgium even though he was injured, and then when it was obvious that he couldn’t play, Lukaku decided to stay in Antwerp and work on his fitness. Napoli demanded he should return to Naples immediately, but he refused. In fact, he hasn't returned yet. His return is scheduled for April 20th, but Napoli already decided to sideline Lukaku until the end of the season. His protegee Antonio Conte agreed with this decision and is also furious with Lukaku. It seem that ‘Big Rom’ will look for another club come June 2026.
