Lille's Knight in shining armour returns home, but with the rival army

For the first time in his career, Lucas Chevalier will face his boyhood club, at which he spent the last 11 years

Ever since Lucas Chevalier arrived at Stade Pierre-Mauroy as a 13-year-old boy, Lille was everything the custodian knew, cared for, and loved. In an ideal world, in some fairytale, that Knight - the meaning of his last name in English - would forever be Les Dogues' protector and the guardian of their goal.

Still, the real world is much more cruel, so the Knight in shining armour with a white dog on his chest is now wearing a red Eiffel Tower near his heart, though we can assume with great certainty that Lille's colours are still inside of it, and probably will be there forever.

Either way, Chevalier will tonight (21.45) for the first time face his boyhood club - a team at whose ranks he spent his entire professional career (except for a season-long loan at Valenciennes) and whose faithful servant he'd been for 11 years, ever since arriving from the far north of France, from the little-known AS Marck, in 2014.

He's worn Lille's jersey for 127 times and kept 44 clean sheets and no one at Lille will ever forget what he gave to the club. Nicolas, one of Les Dogues' fans confirmed it speaking to RMC Sport.

"He's a local kid, he trained in Lille... We can only applaud him," he admitted.

However, this medal has two sides. On the other, for the first time in their lives, people in the crowd at Stade Pierre-Mauroy will wish Chevalier to concede as many goals as possible. Lille boss Bruno Genesio didn't hide it in the pre-match press conference.

"It's going to be warm. For our part, we'll greet him on his arrival, and then we'll do everything we can to score goals for him," the tactician said via RMC Sport.

Chevalier proved he'd be a decent replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma, though his successor at Lille, Berke Ozer, also showed class, stopping three penalties against Roma in the Europa League.

In the end, whichever custodian and team emerge victorious tonight, an emotional night expects us in the north of France, as the Knight will ride against his former troops for the first time.
