Klopp to replace Xabi Alonso!? "A few people messaged me and I replied with various emojis"

The former Liverpool boss commented on Real Madrid's search for the next coach

The first day without Xabi Alonso as the coach of Real is full of comments, analysis, and off course future candidates. And one of them stands out – Jurgen Klopp.

The German is currently available, as he is not coaching but has more senior role in Red Bull empire, has a winning record and knows how to deal with pressure after spending half of his career in Liverpool. Even the reliable sources, like Sky Sport Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg are reporting that Klopp is the first candidate for Real‘s bench. But there are two problems with this story. First one is – Real already has a coach. Alvaro Arbeola, Real B‘s coach and former player was introduced yesterday but without a timeline. He isn‘t an interim boss (at least they didn‘t say so), so Plettenberg wrote that Klopp will be a candidate in June, if it is needed, which is to say if Arbeola fails.

But if we read what Klopp actually said today, it looks like the German is not ready to get into this kind of environment. He was asked if he got any messages following Alonso‘s sack.

Yes, though not from Madrid. But yes, there were definitely a few people who felt they had to contact me directly about it. First of all, I think it’s another sign that something isn’t quite right there at the moment. If Xabi Alonso, who over the last two years in Leverkusen has shown what an outstanding coaching talent he is - and I think at his age and with the number of jobs he’s had, you can say that - is then forced to leave Madrid just six months later, it shows a few things. On the one hand, it shows that nowadays there’s no time anymore. On the other, the expectations at Real Madrid are obviously enormous“ said Klopp on Servus TV On.

The German coach, who is obviously enjoying his time away from every day management then commented on Real‘s decision a bit more and mentioned himself.

To make a decision like that in the heat of the moment, after losing a cup final to Barcelona yesterday, says a lot. I think we’d already been hearing rumours for a while. And now - I don’t know if that’s where your question was going - but this has absolutely nothing to do with me, and it didn’t trigger anything for me either, which would probably have been the follow-up question. I was surprised, that’s true - genuinely surprised. Then a few people messaged me, and I replied with various emojis” said the German. Surely he doesn‘t look like a guy who would like to work in this kind of environment. But let‘s wait for June….
