Board meeting over Alonso's future
Reading Time: 3min | Mon. 08.12.25. | 16:48
Real bosses discussed about the current results for hours
There is no hiding – Real Madrid is in crisis. Weeks before, the news from Spain regarding the relationship between coach Xabi Alonso and Vinicius Jr. claimed that the board fully supports Alonso and that he is untouchable at the moment. But that moment passed away with another bad display (this time against Celta at home) and now even the former Real player is questioned. The results are way below the expectations and it seems that it‘s not about Alonso vs Vinicius, but more like Alonso vs one part of the dressing room. After this defeat, a crisis meeting of Real‘s board was held just after the Celta match. President Florentino Perez was leading the meeting which for several hours and Alonso was the main topic.
According to Marca, other factors, apart from the manager were named and one of those were injuries. Just like last season, Real is facing a mini-injury crisis, particularly to defense, with Militao again being one of the injured players. The other reason is – refereeing. It‘s seems that it‘s one constant theme for Real officials, who are complaining about the Spanish referees weather they win or lose. The fact that two defenders – Carreras and Garcia both got red cards, which will cripple the already thin defensive line is something which further annoyed Real board, and even Alonso talked about the referee after the game.
But the main topic was certainly the boss. Not only the results are bad, but even the wins didn‘t look so great. The game is not fluid and the team relies too much on Kylian Mbappe. The dressing room atmosphere is not good and much will rely on the Wednesday game against Manchester City. It that match goes wrong, anything is possible. As possible candidates, the names like Zinedine Zidane and Jurgen Klopp were mentioned. The French legend is clearly waiting for the end of the World Cup in order to finally coach the national team, while the German is currently overseeing Red Bull football clubs, but should at least think about the possibility of leading one of the biggest clubs in the world. But for now, Alonso is still safe. At least until Wednesday.
