Tanzanian Premier League side Pamba Jiji FC, home to Kenyan quintet of head coach Francis Baraza, assistant John Waw, and players Mathews Tegisi, Brian Eshianda, and Shapan Oyugi, have ascended to the summit of the 16-team league table following a federation ruling in their favour.

The club, based in Mwanza, now leads the embryonic standings on eight points, edging Mbeya City and Mashujaa FC on goal difference, with two matches in hand.

The development follows a decision by the Tanzanian Premier League Board of Management and Administration Committee (TPLB) dated Tuesday, 28 October, regarding the abandoned matchday four fixture between Pamba Jiji and Dodoma Jiji, staged at Jamhuri Stadium earlier this month.

The encounter was halted in the sixth minute after a power blackout plunged the venue into darkness, rendering the continuation of the match impossible.

Despite prolonged efforts, the hosts failed to provide an alternative power source, forcing officials to call off the game.

In its verdict, the TPLB invoked Article 32:3(3) of the Premier League Regulations concerning match disruption, declaring Pamba Jiji the winners by a 3–0 scoreline.

The decision also annulled a goal initially recorded by Dodoma Jiji’s Benno Ngassa, ruling that it would not count towards either the player or the club’s statistics.

"Match No. 044: Dodoma Jiji FC vs Pamba Jiji FC. The club Pamba Jiji has been awarded three (3) goals and three (3) points, while Dodoma Jiji has lost the match by the same margin,” read part of the official communication from the board.

“Dodoma Jiji failed to continue the match after conceding a goal in the 6th minute following a power blackout at Jamhuri Stadium. The club did not make any efforts to restore lighting to allow the match to continue,” the statement continued.

In a separate disciplinary decision, Pamba Jiji fan Damian Malugu was handed a six-month ban for using abusive and inciting language toward the federation during the incident.

The ruling propels coach Francis Baraza’s charges to the top of the log as they turn their attention to their next assignment against Mtibwa Sugar once league action resumes after Tanzania’s general election on Wednesday, 29 October.
