The defeat inched the Kisumu side closer to relegation having failed to win in their last 13 matches

Kayole Starlets ended their five-match winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Kisumu Allstarlets, in a FKF Women Premier League (WPL) match played, on Sunday 1 February at Kisumu Day Secondary School Grounds.

The league returnees went into the match on a bad run of form, having not won any of their last five matches, including back-to-back heavy 4-0 defeats to Kenya Police Bullets and Gideon Starlets respectively.

Having lost their good start to the season, Kayole dropped to ninth, just a place above the relegation zone with 16 points.

Kisumu Allstarlets have been on a poor run of form throughout the season as well, failing to win any of their 13 matches of the season.

The unwanted run of form places them at the bottom of the log with two points.

The match began at a low pace, both teams seemingly suffering from the heat at the lakeside city.

Kayole’s Magneta Ocharo was the recipient of the first chance in the 29th minute but her strike went wide off the post.

The Nairobi-based side thought they had taken the lead in the 35th minute, when Lindah Kihara found the back of the net, but the celebrations were halted by the assistant referee’s flag signaling for an offside.

Kihara was not to be denied in the 45th minute when she rose high to meet Drailer Sati's delivery, guiding the ball into the net.

With three minutes added on, Kayole doubled their lead in the second minute of added time through Mercy Mung’aro, who expertly curled her free kick to the top right corner.

In the second half, Ocharo missed a chance to get into the scoresheet in the 53rd minute when after dribbling past the Allstarlets defense, but shot wide.

In the 65th minute, Mung’aro’s header from a Nuru Hadima corner kick was cleared off the line with the goalkeeper well beaten.

Allstarlets got their consolation through a well taken free kick in the 73rd minute.
