The versatile defender, who stepped into the vice-captaincy role following Michael Kibwage’s move to Gor Mahia, believes Tusker have what it takes to catch with Gor Mahia, who are nine points ahead of them.

Tusker’s opening half of the season was defined by fluctuations in form.

From their first 19 matches, the Ruaraka-based side recorded eight wins, four draws, and seven defeats, the highest number of losses among the current top eight.

It is a statistic, Teka says, that the squad is determined to put behind them.

“We had tough moments, especially because of individual mistakes, but we are addressing them step by step,” Teka said. “It is a process, and we believe we are moving in the right direction.

The former Rising Stars defender revealed that the squad has held frank internal discussions aimed at correcting shortcomings and sharpening their mentality as the title race enters its decisive phase.

We agreed as a team that anyone who beat us in the first round will not do so again. And if we took points from you before, we are coming for maximum points,” he added.

Head coach Charles Okere backed his deputy captain’s confidence, describing the second leg as a clean slate for the 13-time champions.

“We had a false start and it affected the players mentally,” Okere said. “Conceding cheap goals and missing chances hurt us, but what matters now is how we respond in this final stretch of the season.”

Tusker signalled their intent by opening the second round with a 2-1 victory over KCB and will be targeting back-to-back wins when they face Posta Rangers, the side that handed them a 2-1 defeat in the season opener.
