Borji, who has limited coaching experience at the top level, was unveiled on Monday as Bandari’s new boss. His appointment came after the dismissal of Ken Odhiambo, who was shown the door just two matches into the new season, having registered a draw against Kariobangi Sharks and a loss to Shabana FC.
Baraza took charge of the team during their 3-1 win over Murang’a Seal last Saturday—a game that turned out to be his final assignment at the club, marking the end of his two-year stint with the Dockers. He has been replaced by Moroccan Tarik Bendamou, who will now serve as Borji’s assistant.
The former Sofapaka FC, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Equity FC coach took to social media to confirm his exit and to wish the Dockers well.
“Thank you for the memories, Bandari FC. I wish you a much better season ahead,” he posted.
His departure comes just a day after a club official told Mozzart Sport that talks were ongoing for a mutual separation, with only four months left on his contract.
“Now that we have a new assistant coach, we have to find a solution for Baraza, who has served us well for over two years.
He has around four months remaining in his contract, and we are in talks to determine the best way forward. We expect to reach an agreement that suits all parties in the coming days,” the official revealed.
Baraza joined Bandari in 2023 as Twahir Muhiddin’s assistant before being appointed interim head coach following Twahir’s departure.
When Ken Odhiambo took over as head coach, Baraza reverted to his assistant role until last week, when he briefly returned as interim coach.
New head coach Borji will get his first chance to assess the team during the ODM@20 tournament, which kicks off on Thursday in Mombasa. The tournament will feature Bandari FC, AFC Leopards, Shabana FC, and Gor Mahia FC.
