The Tanzanian military side maintained a perfect record throughout the competition, cruising past JKU Queens and Yei Joint Stars in the group stage, edging Kenya Police Bullets in the semifinals, and capping it off with a 1-0 victory over Rayon Sports WFC in Tuesday’s final at Kasarani Stadium.

Reflecting on the triumph, Kondo described it as “mission accomplished” for his players and technical staff.

“We came here to lift the title, and the mission is now accomplished. I thank the players and staff for the hard work,” said the coach, after guiding JKT Queens to their second regional crown.

“The girls showed character, defended as a unit, and proved why JKT Queens belong at the top.”

The decisive moment in the final came inside five minutes, when forward Winfrida Gerald rose highest to head home. Despite heavy second-half pressure from Rayon Sports, JKT’s compact defense held firm, frustrating the Rwandan side and protecting their slender lead.

While Rayon dominated stretches of possession, JKT relied on defensive organisation and quick counterattacks. This tactical gamble ultimately delivered them both the win and a ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League later this year.

The victory made JKT Queens the first club to win the CECAFA title twice, adding to their 2023 success. Other past winners include Vihiga Queens, Simba Queens, and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia.

In the third-place playoff, Kenya Police Bullets gave home fans something to cheer with a 1-0 win over Uganda’s Kampala Queens, thanks to a first-half strike from Margret Kunihira.

Looking ahead, Kondo set his sights on bigger ambitions at the continental level:

“This victory is only the beginning. We want to show Africa that Tanzanian football can compete at the very highest level.”
