Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno could be handed a lifeline at Gor Mahia, following remarks by club chairman Ambrose Rachier that some members of the recently disbanded technical bench may be recalled.
Last week, Gor Mahia made a decision to part ways with its entire technical team.

The move followed a disappointing campaign that ended with a 2-1 defeat to Nairobi United in the Mozzart Bet Cup final at Ulinzi Sports Complex, leaving the club trophyless for the first time since 2016.
“This decision follows a comprehensive internal review and is part of the club’s broader restructuring process aimed at strengthening its technical and operational capacity,” read a statement from the club signed by Rachier.
“The separation has been reached amicably and in good faith, with the club recognizing and appreciating the contributions made by the outgoing staff. We extend our sincere gratitude to the individuals involved for their commitment, professionalism, and service to the club during their tenure,” he added.
Speaking in a separate interview, Rachier clarified that the shake-up was not a blanket dismissal, but rather a dissolution meant to open up room for restructuring.
He hinted that some former staff members could return depending on evaluations.
“This was not a dismissal, it was a dissolution,” he told Radio Citizen.
“We have assured them that once we identify a new technical bench, some of them may be retained based on performance and evaluation,” he clarified.
After the club disbanded the bench,a few pundits were quick to observe that Zico and goalkeepers' trainer Boniface Oluoch could be retained.
As for the search for a new head coach, Rachier suggested that the club is likely to go for a foreign tactician.
He revealed that local coaches have shown little interest in the job, largely due to the pressure that comes with leading a club of Gor Mahia's stature.
“Since I became chairman, I have never received a single application from a local coach. This is largely due to the immense pressure associated with managing Gor Mahia, especially from fans who have traditionally favored foreign coaches,” he explained.
Rachier also noted that recruiting a suitable coach is not a straightforward task.
While many apply, most fall short of key requirements.
“Most of the time, the applicants do not have UEFA Pro or CAF licenses, which automatically disqualifies them. Others lack experience with African clubs, and even when they meet the requirements, some of their financial demands are simply unaffordable,” he added.
