Coach Benni McCarthy has been insisting that the attacking midfielder will play a central role in the tournament despite his fitness concerns
Harambee Stars will possibly have to do without the services of Mohammed Bajaber in the forthcoming 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament, as the attacking midfielder is reportedly on the verge of Tanzanian giants Simba SC.

The latest development comes amid the player's presence in the Stars camp, preparing for the tournament scheduled to kick off on 2 August, with Stars facing two-time champions DR Congo in their opener.
Further, it is on the back of coach Benni McCarthy's unwavering defense of the player's inclusion in the team, despite concerns over his fitness levels, and how openly he has spoken about the role he would play in the tournament.
However, the South African legend might have to come to terms with the fact that his blue-eyed boy may not be available for selection in the tournament, if sources in Tanzania and media reports are to be believed.
Media reports in Tanzania indicate that Simba and Kenya Police FC, Bajaber's current employer, have reached full agreement on the transfer of the 22-year-old.
At the same time, Simba expect Bajaber to be in the plane for their pre-season camp in Egypt, which starts on Wednesday next week.
Simba are understood to have forked millions of shillings to meet the valuation set by Police FC and to be beat their league rivals Azam FC, who reportedly had expressed interest in the player.
Simba are strengthening their squad after parting ways with scores of players following a trophyless 2024-2025 campaign which their bitter rivals Yanga dominated domestic competitions.
The player, commonly known as Starboy, enjoyed career breakthrough in the past campaign, as he helped Police win their maiden league crown.
Additionally, he marked his Stars debut with a wonder goal during a 2026 World Cup qualifier match against The Gambia in March this year.
Should Simba seal the deal as planned, it will certainly be a massive blow to Stars given that the team has already lost two key towards.
The duo of Emmanuel Osoro and Moses Shumah exited camp to compete their transfers to Zambian giants Power Dynamos.
Their departure seemingly threw McCarthy's plans off the balance, as the tactician was forced to resort to the trial and error method in finding replacements.
