The Turkish club has reached a verbal agreement with the English player, but things won’t be that straightforward because Marseille are demanding more money

Mason Greenwood’s future at Marseille has become one of the key talking points of the summer transfer window, with Fenerbahce pushing hard to secure the English forward’s signature.

The Turkish giants have already taken an important step by agreeing personal terms with the 24-year-old striker’s camp. However, despite that progress, negotiations between the two clubs remain far from settled due to a wide gap in valuation.

According to L’Equipe, Fenerbahce’s new leadership structure has proposed an initial package worth around €30 million, including bonuses. Marseille, however, have shown no willingness to accept anything close to that figure, insisting on a significantly higher valuation for one of their most influential attackers.

The Ligue 1 club remain firm in their stance, even as external pressure builds. Financial oversight concerns in France have led some to believe Marseille could be forced into selling, but the club’s hierarchy continues to resist any suggestion of a discounted exit.

An insider familiar with the situation told L’Equipe: "Many suitors also think OM will sell Greenwood on the cheap this summer because the club is forced to sell players. But they are mistaken; there is too much at stake symbolically and financially regarding this matter."

Elsewhere in Europe and the Middle East, interest is present but complicated. Clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Al-Hilal would need to offload major earners like Julian Alvarez and Malcom before making serious moves. Roma, meanwhile, see Greenwood as a potential focal point for Gian Piero Gasperini’s system, but would first need to complete exits for players including Manu Kone and Evan Ndicka.

Marseille’s financial position is also under scrutiny following a delayed ruling from the DNCG, French football’s financial regulator, which has raised expectations of a cautious summer strategy.

Unless Fenerbahce significantly improve their opening bid toward Marseille’s €50–55 million valuation, the situation is expected to drag on deep into the transfer window, with Greenwood’s future still unresolved.
