In a statement shared on Facebook, Jonathan Mueke, the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Livestock Development, noted that the project is progressing on schedule and is being fast-tracked to completion.
"Inspected the ongoing works at Kitui Stadium in Ithookwe, the venue for this year’s Mashujaa Day.

The 10,000-seater stadium has created jobs for over 2,000 people and will continue to benefit youth through sports while generating revenue for the county,” Mueke wrote.
The project, launched in mid-April by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, is valued at Ksh800 million and is part of the government’s broader initiative to modernise sporting infrastructure across the country.
Once complete, the facility will feature a 10,000-seater capacity, a FIFA-standard playing surface, a canopy, a VIP section, and an athletics track.
By mid-July, the works were only at 15 per cent completion, but the latest inspection tour by the PS is aimed at fast-tracking progress.

The stadium is expected to be handed over by Monday, 6 October, well in time for final preparations ahead of the Mashujaa Day festivities on Monday, 20 October.
Ithookwe Stadium is among several facilities currently undergoing upgrades nationwide. Migori Stadium is being renovated to a 10,000-seater facility that meets CAF and FIFA standards, while Bukhungu Stadium is in its second phase of expansion, including terraces and a running track.

Kipchoge Keino Stadium is receiving major refurbishments, and Bomet IAAF is being upgraded to meet FIFA standards, with the aim of hosting FKF Premier League matches for newly promoted APS Bomet.
Recently, the government also completed works at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, which hosted the Jamhuri Day celebrations, while Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani Stadium remain central venues for the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Additionally, construction of the Talanta Sports Complex is ongoing, underscoring Kenya’s drive to boost its sporting infrastructure and enhance its ability to host both national and international competitions.
