The scramble began when Mookh Africa, the official ticketing partner of CAF, opened sales at noon. However, the system immediately suffered a major breakdown, locking out genuine supporters and sparking widespread frustration online.
In an official statement, Mookh Africa attributed the hitch to a surge of automated bots that overwhelmed their platform at the onset of sales.
This, the firm explained, prevented many fans from completing their purchases as intended.
“Dear Kenya fans, we know how important this is for you to have a fair chance at getting tickets, and we’ve heard your frustrations loud and clear,” read part of the statement.
“When sales opened at 12, our system was overwhelmed by automated bots, preventing genuine fans from securing tickets as intended. Our team is actively working to stop this so that tickets go to fans and not bots. Tickets will be back on sale very soon.”
The announcement comes on the backdrop of rising concerns over alleged ticket hoarding and black-market resales that have marred the championship.
Some tickets have reportedly been bought in bulk and resold at inflated prices, while others were allegedly distributed through influential figures, further fueling anger among fans.
Demand for tickets has reached unprecedented levels during the ongoing CHAN championship, with allocations for Harambee Stars’ group matches selling out within hours of release.
The quarter-final, set for Friday, 22 August at Kasarani Stadium, is expected to draw a full house as Kenya continues their historic run.
Stars booked their place in the last eight after finishing top of Group A with ten points, while Madagascar advanced as runners-up from Group B.
