The outcome of the match between Tusker and Gor Mahia will definitely spice up title race between K'Ogalo and AFC Leopards, with the second leg of the Mashemeji Derby looming
All eyes will be on Wang’uru Stadium as record Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) champions, Gor Mahia, take on 12-time winners Tusker in one of two rescheduled matches on Tuesday, April 14.
The match, scheduled to kick off at 4:15 pm, carries significant weight in the title race.

Gor Mahia will be seeking to secure maximum points to consolidate their grip at the top of the table and return to winning ways, having played Kariobangi Sharks to a barren draw in their previous match.
While Tusker, on the other hand, appear to be out of the title race, a win or draw for them would be a welcome result for Gor Mahia’s bitter rivals, AFC Leopards, who trail by two points.
Any outcome in the match is poised to further spice up the title race between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, with the second leg of the Mashemeji Derby drawing ever closer.
Gor head into the match in great form, having won eight of their past 10 matches and are currently on a 16-match unbeaten run.
However, K’Ogalo will be under pressure, having dropped two points in an uninspiring performance against Kariobangi Sharks in their last match, giving Leopards a huge boost in the title race.
Despite the slip, coach Charles Akonnor is confident that his side has what it takes to lift the league title.
“We are taking one game at a time and focusing on ourselves, but also with a side eye to what is happening behind us. We know that AFC Leopards are doing everything in their power to overtake us, but that will be difficult, as we will not allow it.
We are currently on top of the league with two points and a game in hand that we are confident of winning to go five points clear, and we are all prepared for that,” said Akonnor.
Tusker are placed 10th with 37 points, but despite admitting the impossibility of winning the league, coach Julien Mette said they are keen to ensure they finish the season on a high note.
“Our main attention this season is to win the Mozzart Bet Cup and finish at the highest possible position in the league. where we are using the remaining eight matches as a form of preparing a team to challenge for next season’s title,” said Mette after their Mozzart Bet Cup Round of 16 1-0 victory over Kariobangi Sharks.
Mathare United vs Kenya Police FC
In the other match of the day, Mathare United will welcome defending champions Police FC at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, from 2pm.
Mathare head into the match on a poor run of form, having won just one of their last six matches.
The Slum Boys will therefore be seeking to return to winning ways at the expense of Police, a task midfielder Paul Kinyanjui is confident they will achieve.
“The match against Police will be a tough one as they are a good and big team. However, we have always found a way of defeating such top teams and therefore I am confident of a victory against them,” Kinyanjui told the club's media.
For Police, they have won four of their last five matches and sit fourth on the log with 43 points.
They would move level on points with Homeboyz if they manage a win against Mathare.
Despite a win drawing them their name in the title race, coach Nicholas Muyoti insists that Mozzart Bet Cup is the only realistic opportunity of bagging a title this season.
“The gap that Gor Mahia and Leopards have created seems big enough, and I think we do not have a realistic chance of winning the league.
Together with my team, we have all agreed that our chance for continental football is the Cup, and that is where our attention is. We will therefore use the league matches as preparation for our Cup campaign,” Muyoti said after Police’s victory over BB Bread in the Round of 16.
