The two sides met in an FKF Premier League match played on Friday, 3 April at the Police Sacco Stadium, where the reigning league champions emerged with a 1-0 victory.
Burkinabe forward Yves Koutiama rose high to head home an Abud Omar free kick in the 62nd minute to not only give Police three points but also secure back-to-back wins.
However, Mette was less impressed with the Law Enforcers, accusing them of time-wasting antics after taking the lead.
“They (Police) scored and then resorted to the African style that everybody else in the world hates, staying down and sleeping on the deck to provoke and run down the clock,” said Mette.
The French tactician went ahead to slam Police FC, noting that it is such a style that prevents Police from progressing in CAF interclub competitions.
“This type of behaviour does not help you when you play in the CAF Champions League, and that is why they have been ridiculous when they play there.
In the local league, it is funny when you do it, but in CAF, you cannot because you are the underdog and have to play and chase the game. We have maybe played a quarter of the second half, which is not good,” he added.
Mette went ahead to suggest that time-wasting antiques make it difficult for players to be called up to the national team.
“We have a good national team head coach (Benni McCarthy). Ask him if he is going to pick some of the players in that team.”
The former Djibouti national team head coach further explained that, in the long run, time-wasting has more harm than benefits to Kenyan football.
“I am here to help the level of Kenyan football grow. I am proud of my team, not because they have lost but because they tried to play good football.
Guys are now making fun of and joking about me, which is part of the game, but let us go into the future, one or two years and see if I was wrong,” he remarked.
