Former Shabana head coach exits Mombasa United after two months

Newly promoted FKF Premier League side Mombasa United have confirmed the departure of head coach Peter Okidi, bringing an end to his two-month spell at the club.

The side announced the experienced tactician's departure via a statement on its official social media platforms, thanking him for his contributions during his tenure in charge.

"Mombasa United Football Club extends its sincere appreciation to Coach Peter Okidi for his dedication, leadership and service to the club," the statement read in part.

Okidi took charge at the tail end of the 2025/26 season following his departure from Shabana FC, replacing Gilbert Selebwa.

His arrival sparked a remarkable turnaround as he guided the Coastal outfit to promotion to the top-flight for the first time in the club's history.

Under his stewardship, Mombasa United finished third in the 2025/26 National Super League (NSL) standings, securing automatic promotion and capping off an impressive campaign that marked a historic milestone for the club.

In their farewell message, Mombasa United praised the veteran coach for his professionalism and lasting contribution to the team.

"During his time with the team, Coach Okidi played an important role in steering the club through a significant period in our journey.

His commitment, professionalism and contribution to the players and the technical team will always be appreciated."

The club concluded by wishing the former Kakamega Homeboyz tactician success in the next chapter of his coaching career.

Although Mombasa United are yet to announce his successor, Okidi is not expected to stay out of work for long.

According to sources close to Mozzart Sport, the experienced coach has already agreed to join Premier League side KCB as the club's first assistant coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

At KCB, he is set to work under three-time league-winning tactician Robert Matano as the Bankers continue strengthening their technical bench in a bid to compete at the highest level.

The move is viewed as a strong statement of intent by KCB, who are determined to improve on last season's seventh-place finish and mount a serious challenge for the league title.
