World Cup hero Vozinha breaks down in tears after completing dream move to Colo-Colo

Cabo Verde's World Cup sensation Vozinha could not hold back his emotions after completing the biggest move of his career.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper was brought to tears as he signed his contract with Chilean giants Colo-Colo, sealing a transfer that seemed almost unimaginable before his stunning performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Club president Anibal Mosa confirmed that Vozinha will officially become a Colo-Colo player after completing his medical examinations, ending weeks of speculation over the identity of the club's new first-choice goalkeeper.

"Vozinha will be a Colo-Colo player. In the coming days, he will travel to Chile, undergo the usual medical examinations and then be presented here at the Estadio Monumental," Mosa said.

The veteran shot-stopper earned worldwide recognition after producing a series of outstanding displays in North America, most notably helping Cabo Verde hold eventual world champions Spain to a memorable goalless draw.

He also impressed against defending champions Argentina and was ultimately voted into FIFA's fan-selected Best XI World Cup Team.

His exploits sparked interest from several clubs around the world, including reported enquiries from MLS side Inter Miami, but Colo-Colo acted quickest to secure his signature.

According to Chilean outlet La Cuarta, the move also represents a significant financial reward. Vozinha is expected to earn $25,000 per month, more than double the $10,000 monthly salary he reportedly received at Portuguese second-tier side Chaves.

Mosa admitted that while the transfer made perfect sporting sense, Vozinha's soaring popularity also made him an attractive addition away from the pitch.

The goalkeeper has become one of football's unlikeliest social media sensations, with help from Brazilian content creator Casemiro. His Instagram following has exploded from around 50,000 before the World Cup to almost 30 million in just a matter of weeks.

During the tournament, Vozinha revealed that his mother, Ana Candida Evora, was unable to travel to the United States because she could not afford the bond required for her visa application. Following public appeals, she was eventually granted a visa with all travel costs waived, allowing one of the World Cup's most touching stories to receive a happy ending.

Now another dream has become reality.

Colo-Colo, Chile's most successful club and the country's only Copa Libertadores winners, have entrusted their goal to one of the breakout stars of the World Cup.
