Ugandan giants Vipers Sports Club has confirmed that midfield star Allan Okello has completed his transfer to Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC, bringing to a close his time at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Okello departs the Uganda Premier League champions after a highly successful period in which he helped the club secure both the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup titles.
During his two-and-a-half-year tenure at Vipers, Okello scored 24 goals and provided 13 assists in 58 league appearances.
He also contributed four goals and two assists in the Uganda Cup.
In the 2024/25 season, he finished as the Uganda Premier League top scorer with 19 goals, an exceptional tally for an attacking midfielder.
On the continental stage, Okello represented Vipers in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, helping the club reach the second preliminary round while demonstrating leadership and creativity in key moments.
Following strong performances for Uganda during last year’s CHAN tournament, Okello was linked with a move to Kenyan side Gor Mahia.
The transfer, however, did not materialize, as he remained at Vipers, continuing to play a central role in the Uganda Premier League.
AFC Leopards also openly expressed interest in Okello’s services.
Secretary General Isaac Mulindi said, “Okello is the kind of player who transforms a team instantly. But we also understand many of these talents are being monitored by clubs with far bigger offers. We cannot waste time on players already leaning towards overseas moves,” as quoted on Citizen Digital.
Despite Leopards’ interest, no formal agreement was reached.
Since joining Vipers in September 2023 from Algerian side Paradou AC, Okello established himself as a key member of the squad and one of the club’s most influential players. With six months remaining on his contract, the club sanctioned his exit in recognition of his service and to allow him to pursue a new challenge.
At Young Africans SC, Okello will team up with Kenyan midfielder Duke Abuya and become part of a squad that includes a number of proven domestic and regional players.
The club has confirmed his registration and eligibility to participate in both domestic league and continental competitions for the remainder of the season.
Vipers officially thanked Okello for his contributions to the team and confirmed that all contractual and regulatory requirements for his transfer were completed.
