Okoth, who left Shabana during the last transfer window, struck in the 39th minute which was the highlight of an otherwise dull first half.

It also handed Peter Okidi’s men their second consecutive defeat of the season.

The opening half offered little excitement, with both sides struggling to create meaningful chances.

Shabana enjoyed more possession, but failed to find a cutting edge in the final third.

Then, out of nowhere, Okoth produced a moment of brilliance a stunning strike from distance that left goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili rooted, giving the Slum Boys a slender lead heading into the break.

Mathare began the second half with a tactical tweak that strengthened their backline, but Shabana started brighter after the restart.

Elli Asieche was booked in the 52nd minute for a clumsy challenge on Wycliffe Omondi, and the ensuing free-kick led to a corner that came to nothing.

Despite sustained pressure from the home side, Mathare’s defense stood firm, frustrating Shabana’s attempts to level the score.

At the hour mark, Okidi introduced Justus Munika and Victor Omondi for Derrick Otieno and Justine Omwando.

Mathare countered with changes of their own, with Derrick Anami replacing Meshack Ochieno and Donald Ange coming on for Okoth.

The fresh legs injected more energy into the visitors, who began to threaten again.

In the 65th minute, Brian Ouru nearly doubled Mathare’s advantage, beating Mark Okola before sending his effort just over the bar with Mulili beaten.

Shabana hit back through a swift counterattack that earned a free-kick at the edge of the box.

Humphrey Obino’s delivery almost created an equalizer, but goalkeeper Kevin Ouru pulled off a fingertip save to deny Wycliffe Omondi from close range.

With 20 minutes to play, Mathare dropped deep to protect their lead, leaving Ange as the lone man upfront.

The hosts pressed forward relentlessly, but the visitors’ disciplined defending and Ouru’s sharp reflexes kept them at bay.

In the 77th minute, Obino forced another superb save from the Mathare goalkeeper, whose outstretched punch denied what looked like a sure goal.

Late substitutions saw Gilbert Abala and Ugandan winger Brian Olega introduced for Shabana, with the former nearly making an immediate impact after a fine solo run, only to be denied again by Ouru.

Despite sustained late pressure, Shabana could not find a breakthrough.

The result sees Shabana drop to third place on seven points, the same tally as Mathare United, who now sit fourth.
