The gesture, though modest, has been welcomed by many football followers as a step in the right direction for a league that has long battled financial and logistical hurdles
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on Wednesday, 1 October, handed a timely boost to clubs in the National Super League (NSL) by providing each team with five quality match balls for the ongoing 2025/26 season.

FKF said the move is aimed at raising the standards of the second-tier league while easing the burden on clubs that often struggle with resources.
The federation noted that the supply of new balls will help improve competition and reduce the pressure on teams that have had to dig into their own pockets for match-day equipment.
“To boost competition in the ongoing 2025/26 season, the Football Kenya Federation has provided every National Super League club with five quality match-day balls,” FKF said in a statement.
The gesture, though modest, has been welcomed by many football followers as a step in the right direction for a league that has long battled financial and logistical hurdles.
By supplying match balls, FKF is signalling its intention to stand with the clubs and ensure a level playing field.
According to the federation, the initiative is part of its continued commitment to supporting clubs and raising the standards of the leagues.
The NSL is regarded as the bridge between grassroots football and the elite Kenyan Premier League (KPL).
Many of the country’s top talents have passed through it before moving to the top flight or even securing opportunities abroad.
Such interventions, even in small doses, can make a significant difference to the league’s profile.
For the players, access to reliable match balls is not only about the game itself but also about feeling recognised and supported in their craft.

FKF has also promised to continue making such investments as part of its broader vision to uplift Kenyan football.
In another positive move, the federation recently assured fans that selected NSL matches will be broadcast live on television and radio during the 2025/26 season, in a bid to raise the league’s profile.
The second tier has been without a broadcast partner since the exit of Bamba Sports in 2019 and has lacked a title sponsor since the departure of its previous betting-firm backer.

Leading gaming firm Mozzart Bet Kenya Limited recently injected Ksh18 million into the league and entered into partnerships with 3K FC, Kisumu All Stars, and Migori Youth.
