The 22-year-old has missed his team's last seven games with a hamstring injury

After close to two months on the sidelines, it is now official that Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje is in contention to return to action for his club Charlton Athletic this weekend.

This comes after Charlton manager Nathan Jones on Thursday, 16 April confirmed that the 22-year-old center back was available for his team’s trip to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, 18 April.

Asked about the status of the Kenyan defender, who had been out of the side from late February with a hamstring injury, Jones told reporters: “Him [Sichenje] and Reece Burke are all available, so that’s good for our competition.”

Sichenje, who joined The Addicks in January from Serbian side FK Vojvodina, made a big step towards his recovery last week, when it was announced that he was back on the grass training with the rest of the squad.

The announcement came almost at the exact time Jones had projected the former AFC Leopards man to make a return, having taken some time out to recover during the March international break.

As per Jones’ assertions, it may be likely that Sichenje’s place in the team is a toss-up between him and Burke, who marked his own return from injury with a place on the bench against Preston North End last weekend.

Since his signing, Sichenje has started one game for Charlton - a 1-1 draw against Southampton that saw him awarded as the club’s man-of-the-match - before making two substitute appearances against West Brom and Wrexham immediately afterwards.

In total, Sichenje has missed seven games for Charlton with injury, and comes back with only four games left to the end of the season.

Jones’ side, who are winless in their last five games, find themselves just five points above the relegation zone, and will aim to take a major step towards securing Championship survival when they visit already relegated Sheffield Wednesday, who they beat 2-1 in October.

Also returning for Charlton on Saturday (1700 EAT) are Conor Coady (concussion), and goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski (shoulder).
