Firmly anchored at the foot of the FKF Premier League table, the Kawangware-based outfit finds itself in a perilous position, grappling with the grim prospect of relegation just five years after securing promotion to the top flight in 2020.
With a mere 24 points to their name, City Stars are three adrift of safety and six behind 13th-placed Mara Sugar, making every remaining fixture a potential lifeline.
Owino, speaking to Mozzart Sport ahead of the crucial fixture, underlined the urgency of securing three points against Shabana, a side currently riding high on a remarkable seven-match unbeaten run.
“We’re fully aware of the magnitude of this match. Shabana are playing some fantastic football and have shown real consistency. But for us, this is a must-win. Every game from here on is a final. We respect Shabana, but we’re stepping onto that pitch determined to fight for survival and take maximum points.” he stated
Despite their struggles, City Stars carry a glimmer of hope rooted in their history against the Glamour Boys.
In November, the Salim Babu-led side pulled off a shock 1-0 win over Shabana at the Gusii Stadium, a result that Owino believes can serve as a powerful source of inspiration.
“That win was massive for us. We had to dig deep, but we showed character and walked away with a victory, and hopefully we’ll be looking to replicate that performance this weekend,” he added.
